Events We Love: Bike Expo New York

The Five Boro Bike Tour is one of those uniquely New York events that only comes around once a year. As America’s biggest cycling to-do, the Five Boro Bike Tour sees 32,000 cyclists of all different levels biking en mass across New York City. With many streets cleared for their passing, the event is one of the most unique ways to see the city.

On April 29th and 30th, leading up to the big event, is the Bike Expo New York, hosted by Bike New York, a 501(c)3 whose mission is to promote cycling as a “practical, sustainable, healthy, and fun means of transportation and recreation.” Over the course of the two days, 60,000 cyclists are expected to attend– but don’t be worried if attending a single Soul Cycle class is the extent of your bicycling prowess. The event is open to the public and there are are free bike lessons and bike practice sessions for anyone looking to brush up their bi-pedal skills.

In addition to the numerous vendors making an appearance (REI, Cliff Bars, and Garmin are among the more notable), there are constant workshops (like street safety) and other programming (including a fashion show and a travel tip seminar).

The final selling point? After a long day of peddling, you can roll in to their refreshing beer garden.

The Bike Expo New York will take place May 5 + 6, 2017 at Pier 36 at Basketball City (299 South Street, Manhattan). Find more info here
