On The Road in Potsdam: Sanssouci Palace & Its Beautiful Gardens
Picture yourself soaking in the sun, a light breeze brushing against your skin as you walk the colorful grounds of a gorgeous German estate.
Palace Sanssouci, the former summer residence of Frederick, King of Prussia, is absolutely stunning. And luckily for GC, we had the chance to witness the beauty in person on our recent trip to Berlin. Filled with purple, yellow, and pink flowers popping up amongst the greenery, Palace Sanssouci is the perfect trip for all the garden lovers– with beautiful, bold fig trees and a number of idyllic attributes relaxing enough to counteract the trendy hustle of Berlin city.
Our walk through the estate in Potsdam (the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg) featured a stop by its massive greenhouses, which include a variety of plants, purposeful weeds, and summertime flowers native to central Europe. Most impressive was the historical grounds incorporation of kale, which is grown throughout the gardens.
As we further explored the palace, we found comfy exterior spaces where visitors could picnic in the shade (much to our delight). Ancient statues, water fountains, roman bathes, and distant castles loom on the horizon and lend a feeling of living history to the land around Palace Sanssouci. And though it seemed as if the palace gardens were endless, we couldn’t help but notice the different themes and unique personality that each one of them held.
