Tropico-Chic High Tea is a Beverly Hills Instagram Sensation

Beverly Hills has long been the playground of the rich and famous, but the tropico-chic High Tea at the Peninsula Beverly Hills has made it something of an Instagram sensation, as well. The Living Room at the hotel offer traditional Afternoon Tea served in an open salon full of plush sofas and two fireplaces, overlooking an ivy-covered walled Garden.

A classical harpist imbues the service with dreamy ambiance, playing live for the 2:30 PM and 5 PM seatings– but this is not an overtly-bougie affair. (The environment welcomes families with small children and the blogger-set alike.)

Afternoon Tea offers 19 choices of loose leaf tea custom blended for The Peninsula Beverly Hills. Royal Tea service (the most popular option) features an individual pot of tea, a glass of champagne or sparkling apple cider, freshly-baked scones (gluten free options available), and a delectable selection of tea sandwiches and pastries. (The Imperial Tea comes with all of the above plus a savory caviar cake and a classic Peninsula Page Boy cap cake wrapped to take home– talk about luxury.)

On a recent trip to L.A., GC swung by the hotel for a 2:30 PM tea service where we enjoyed lush California strawberries with fresh whipping cream that (both of your correspondents agreed) were to die for. Eating fresh strawberries is a rite of passage in California dining, and having them in such an elegant setting– reminiscent of a fairy tale that a takes place near a hidden garden– was divine.

Whether you’re looking for a staycation or a pretty way to spend an afternoon, you’re going to want to bring your phone– not only is the service beautiful, but the decor is gorgeous.

High Tea isn’t usually accessible to those avoiding gluten, but the Peninsula proudly accommodates this dietary restriction (just be sure to request the “gluten-free option” when you make your reservation). Warm biscuits (gluten-free or otherwise) are served with fresh double devon cream butter and divine, homemade apple butter. Rich, succulent chicken finger sandwiches, meanwhile, can be served on gluten-free bread. (We enjoyed the gluten-free brownies, as well!)

For those in the area or looking for a nice spot to celebrate a special occasion or treat a friend who’s only briefly in town, High Tea at The Peninsula is an excellent choice. Enjoy The Living Room’s tropico-chic decor overlooking the walled garden, or head on up to the garden terrace for an al fresco meal by the pool. Whether you’re looking for a staycation or a pretty way to spend an afternoon, you’re going to want to bring your phone– not only is the service beautiful, but the decor is gorgeous. This is a FOMO-inducing Instagram waiting to happen.
