Bouquet of The Week: Candle Light & Cozy Nights

As part of our recurring Bouquet of the Week series, Garden Collage continues to present a weekly inspirational bouquet that incorporates intriguing new elements into the traditional practice of floral design. This week, Garden Collage Photo Editor Andreana Bitsis styles a bouquet to celebrate the coziness of Fall.

I’m a pretty hyperactive person: my mind is always moving a mile a minute and I often have a hard time enjoying the moment before I start thinking about what’s next. After the high-energy, social aspect of summer, there’s something about the season of fall that makes me want to slow down in every way possible.

It might be the fact that I can retreat into a big, fuzzy sweater or that I can finally order a steaming hot cup of coffee again, but I think the part I love most is the way that being home finally feels cozy. The summer heat and dreaded humidity that makes you long for fresh air has finally lifted and spending a quiet night inside becomes a treat.

Normally after work I would talk myself into going for a run or socializing in the city, but a big, comfy recliner in Brooklyn is calling my name. There’s no better time to light a few candles, grab a good book, and snuggle up under a blanket. The only thing that could add to that blissful evening is a bouquet of my favorite flowers.

I’m typically drawn to bright, bold colors when it comes to flowers, but this time I kept reaching for the darker shades and earth tones that reflected my mood. As soon as I saw the oversized hydrangeas and amaryllis, I just couldn’t help myself. After adding in a few rust-colored Cala lilies and astilbe for a pop of Fall color, I put everything into a simple brown jar on the windowsill next to me and collapsed into my chair. The flowers were as beautiful and soothing as the sun slowly setting through my window, a moment that made me truly appreciate the start of a new season and a change of rhythm.
