Daisy’s Tips: Finding New Life For Old Pots

Over the weekend, I was in my neighborhood and walked by one my favorite local spots, the Spotted Pig. It’s always incredible to me that no matter what the season, the restaurant is beautifully garden-esque at all times. They have taken the whole sidewalk and turned it into an enchanting garden space, and when you see it, you just smile.

I found out that the talented Tommy Schwartz is responsible for bringing this little bit of countryside magic to the West Village. He uses a mélange of old garbage cans and vintage flower containers to create the Spotted Pig’s street front garden, filling them with tulips and other springtime flowers to round out the aesthetic.

Seeing Tommy’s installation reminded me that I should shop in my own home before going out to buy something new. This display is such a simple way to repurpose all the different pails and pots that have accumulated in my home over the years. Plus, it’s a creative challenge to see how you can turn an old object into something fresh and new. Within limitations, our creativity flourishes.
