Time to Order Your Bees!
While Winter often seems like a time when there’s very little to do in the garden besides stare at it and hope Spring comes faster, it turns out now is the perfect time of year to order some bees. Yes, bees— those currently endangered little creatures who keep our world going.
If you live in the New York area, Andrew’s Honey has bee packages for sale that can be picked up in April either in Manhattan or Norwalk, Connecticut. (Just be warned, they sell out fast!) Like the idea of owning some bees but not sure where to start? Fortunately, you’ve got time before the April pick up date and in between, the New York City Beekeeper Association is offering classes that will teach you how to get your beehive up and running, and healthy.
Don’t have the space, time, or energy to have your own beehive but don’t want to feel left out? You can adopt a beehive from around the world. (They’ll even throw in some honey to sweeten the deal.)
