OVANDO Opens Gorgeous New Floral Shop in Southampton

Ovando, a New York City flower shop known for its clean, modern arrangements, opened a new store in Southhampton this May, adding to their Manhattan locations in the West Village and Upper East Side. The new shop has a laid back, friendly atmosphere that brings Ovando’s graphic sophistication to New York’s most iconic vacation spot: the perfect urbane perspective to serve the region’s metropolitan beach culture.

Before opening Ovando’s latest venture there, Sandra de Ovando (the founder and proprietor) had been coming to the Hamptons for many years, and had long harbored a desire to set up her own shop there. But the time never seemed to be right and the opportune moment never presented itself. By chance one week, the long-time owner of a flower shop in Southampton called Sandra to see if she would be interested in taking over the space and clientele– without knowing she had always entertained the idea of adding a location to the area. That same day, Sandra took him up on the offer.

Sandra de Ovando’s love of flowers goes back to her childhood (she grew up in Mexico City and would spend time in the garden alongside her mother). “I was fascinated with the intrinsic beauty of flowers and loved to spend hours mismatching different colors, shapes, and blossoms,” she recalls on her website. Her travels later in life through Europe and Asia introduced her to exotic blooms, as she continued to cultivate what would become her signature worldly aesthetic.

Today, Sandra de Ovando works with clients as varied as they are high-profile. Her roster of regulars includes Hermes, The U.S. Open Tennis Association, MoMA, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hugh Jackman, and Donna Karan– to name just a few. The Southampton shop is set to be open through December, and will reopen next summer, in sync with the natural rhythm of the region. “The Hamptons, after all, is legendary for its parties, especially in high season,” Sandra de Ovando told Hamptons Magazine, when asked about what she’s looking forward to with her new shop. With summer in full swing– and with it being party season– we can’t wait to see what she creates!
