At Milan Fashion Week, Nature Motifs Reign Supreme

Floral motifs and illusions to the tropics dominated Milan Fashion Week last week, where, to quote the New York TimesElizabeth Paton, “escapism proved the engine of the eye”.

Observing Spring and Summer collections in the Fall has always been a major paradox of the Fashion industry, whose seasons typically fail to link up directly with the actual weather outside the runway. Still, getting excited for Spring looks when the season itself is taking a turn for the colder is one of the many delights of both the gardening and sartorial world– from Gucci’s floral embroidery to Jimmy Choo’s botanical origami and Charlotte Olympia’s cute-enough-to-eat fruity flats. High in focus were Dolce & Gabbana’s baroque floral collages– a series of layered, thickly-embroidered crop jackets and pullover vests paired beautifully with waist-nipping peplum shorts, sleek trousers, and even the occasional apron skirt.
