Perfect Your Dinner Table with These Easy-To-Make Pinecone Card Holders

Perfect decor for the holiday season!

We love collecting pinecones– but there only just so many ways we can artfully arrange them in bowls or use to punctuate bookshelves.

The solution: we decided to make some pinecones into name card holders– a lovely, dainty way to add a touch of the outdoors to any dinner table.

A little bit of color along the edges elevates what could otherwise look like something collected from your lawn (even if it is!) into a beautiful element of décor, ideal for dinner parties or holiday get-togethers.

We chose a light pink color (rather than white) to add depth– however, you can paint the edges of your pinecones to match your table setting. Simple, charming, and easy to make!

Materials

  • Small pinecones (about 2″ tall)
  • Paintbrush
  • Acrylic paint in the color of your choice

Directions

  1. Lay down cardboard or newspaper to protect surfaces from paint.
  2. Beginning at the top, gently dab paint onto the edges of the pinecone’s teeth.
  3. Once the paint is dry, slip name cards into the top teeth of the pinecone. We used compostable, plantable seed paper for our name cards and we encourage you to do the same, or to use recycled paper for minimum environmental impact. Voila!
