Garden Collage Magazine contributing photographer Caterina Rancho goes behind the scenes with local Bavarian resident and artist Alexa Ehlers.
“Eventually, I met a Swiss girl who taught me to paddle. We worked with her and other women who were weavers, milliners, and goldsmiths in a joint workshop. When I first found old chairs in the garbage, I remembered the sattler tools and materials that I inherited from my father. So I started to give old chairs a new life by sanding and painting them, and occasionally infusing them with new material.”
“Some trees had to be felled, because the neighboring farmer complained about the leaves and the windfall,” she adds. “At that time, we also cut the ground-nearing branches of the trees, which could otherwise remain. My daughter hung lights under the crown and set tables and chairs underneath. The gigantic crown formed by the tree became a dreamlike living space.”
