Our definitive guide to all natural Easter. Learn how to make plant-based Easter egg dye with common household ingredients.
For a deep purple, boil 1/2 cup black rice with 1 1/2 cups water in a covered pot. Once water has become opaque, remove from heat and let cool. Add 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
For a vibrant yellow, add 1 Tbsp turmeric to 1 cup boiling water. Let cool and add 1/2 tsp white vinegar. Be sure when dyeing the egg to stir the mixture frequently, as the turmeric will settle to the bottom.
For a light, silvery blue, add 1/2 cup frozen blueberries to 1 – 1 1/2 cups warm water. Let sit until blueberries have thawed and begun to disintegrate. Strain out debris and add 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
For a burnt orange, add 1 Tbsp paprika to 1 cup boiling water. Let cool and add 1/2 tsp white vinegar. Be sure when dyeing the egg to stir the mixture frequently, as the paprika will settle to the bottom.
For a cool silver, boil the skins of two plums with 1 1/2 cups water in a covered pot. Once water has become a dark red-purple, remove from heat and let cool. Add 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
For bright pink, boil one diced beet with 1 1/2 cups water in a covered pot. Once water has become opaque, remove from heat and let cool. Add 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
For gold, boil 1/2 cup ground coffee with 1 1/2 cups water in a covered pot. Once water has become opaque, remove from heat and let cool. Add 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
For a light purple, juice 3 blood oranges. No vinegar needed, as the juice is acidic on its own!
