Much of the beauty of flowers stems from the fact that they are temporal in nature: despite their good looks, no blossom lasts forever. But there is beauty–and use!–in flowers that have started to fade. The GC office is often crowded with flowers, and we’re always looking for new ways to repurpose them after they’ve started to wilt. We’ve turned them into suncatchers and high fashion, but now we’re taking them back to nature–by turning them into bugs! Encourage Lil’ Sprouts to use all the different parts of the bouquet (petals, stems, leaves) to stage their own cute critters. Plus, if you scan or take photos of them, you can use them as invitations for your next party.
Look for flowers and petals that lie flat. Collaging doesn’t have to be just about the petals! Greens and leaves work as bodies and legs.
Stage petals together to create delicate wings.
Don’t throw those out! Dried petals add texture.
Try using the whole flower bud for added color and shape!
