In honor of the Rupaul’s Drag Race Finale airing Friday, June 23rd, we put together a gallery of our favorite floral looks from competitors past and present.
Who? The walking art-piece– seriously, check out her killer Instagram
Appeared on: Season 8
Best Rupaul moment: Was there ever a challenge Kim Chi wasn’t serving looks? Go ahead and find one…we’ll wait. Though she constantly outdid herself with flawless make-up and picture perfect style, we’re forever obsessed with her paper couture look. And of course, Kim Chi was more than a pretty face– in the finale, she was a politically and culturally powerful figure as well.
Most memorable quote: “This ad was paid out of my own pocket because no one cares. Do you?”
Who? The queen serving looks and discourse
Appeared on: Season 9
Best Drag Race moment: Though she faced doubts in the Werk Room (we’ll admit, we were a little skeptical at first), Sasha served an unexpectedly hilarious rendition of Marlene Dietrich in the Snatch Game. Over the course of the season, Sasha has proven herself to be a versatile queen, hilarious in comedy challenges and sickening on the runway.
Most memorable quote: “Michelle is so Jersey, her idea of classical music is Lisa Lisa.”
Who? The lost child of John Waters
Appears on: Season 5, All Stars Season 2
Best Drag Race moment: From her Lady Bunny snatch game to her “Red for Filth” perfume ad, it’s hard to choose from Alaska’s many iconic scenes– she even spawned Lil’ Poundcake, who is now a star unto herself. But Alaska had us in tears over her Mae West impersonation for the All Stars Snatch Game.
Most memorable quote: “Hiiiiiieee!” (obviously!)
Who? The Brooklyn Queen
Appeared on: Season 9
Best Drag Race moment: Something of a divisive figure on their season (either hate-to-love or love-to-hate), Aja’s “I Need A Hero” lip-synch was a exactly the kind of performance that makes Drag Race such an entertaining show. Though they faced a lot of criticism on- and off-screen, Aja has come to terms with their early exit and is using their platform to educate more communities about drag culture, particularly as regards those who are non-gender-conforming.
Most memorable quote: “You’re perfect, you’re beautiful, you look like Linda Evangelista, you’re a model!”
Who? The sumptuously beautiful, slightly freaky, #flazeda ice princess
Appeared on: Season 7
Best Drag Race moment: While pretty much every look Pearl served on the runway was absolutely stellar (the bearded look? iconic), her conjoined twin makeover with Trixie Mattel was a much-needed redemption arc for both queens. Season 7 is often critiqued as being too fishy and not entertaining enough, but we couldn’t help but be obsessed with Pearl’s entire aesthetic.
Most memorable quote: “Bitch I’m from New York, and you can wear fur in spring. ‘Kay?”
Who? The most GIF-able, quotable queen to ever appear on Rupaul’s Drag Race
Appeared on: Season 5, All Stars Season 2
Best Drag Race moment: Her “Alyssa’s Secret” perfume ad still cracks us up, but honorable mentions go out to any challenge/lip-synch that involved her dancing, as well as the ongoing feud with Coco Montrese– which prompted a pretty epic lip-synch smackdown.
Most iconic quote: a toss up between the genre defining “It’s not personal, it’s drag.” and “…back rolls?!?” (there were too many choose from!)
Who? One of the funniest queens to ever grace Ru’s stage
Appeared on: Season 4, All Stars Season 1
Best Drag Race moment: Another imminently GIF-able queen (“Gurl, the SHADE, the SHADE of it all!“), Latrice is still hands-down one of the most hilarious queens from all eleven seasons, with looks and confidence to match. While it’s hard to choose from her many star moments (that laugh!), we’ll never forget her breakout role in “Hot in Tuckahoe”.
Most iconic quote: “EAT IT!” (but of course “Get those nuts away from my face!” still has a special place in our hearts)
Who? More like Tyra who?
Appeared on: Season 3
Best Drag Race moment: Raja was a pretty clear cut winner from Day 1 (some say because of her prior friendship with Rupaul, but we put it down to her stunning looks), so it’s hard to pick from the multitude of looks she served (the flapper look? the Marie Antoinette look? the Carrie look?!). But (of course!) we’re especially partial to her impersonation of Tyra Banks during the snatch game.
Most iconic quote: “I have a master’s degree in fierce– I should be a professor!”
Who? The Saboteur
Appeared on: Season 4
Best Drag Race moment: Though she’s since be re-born on Instagram as a cosplay queen, Phi Phi O’Hara was made out to be something of a villain on her season (or at the very least an antagonist), forever at odds with eventual winner Sharon Needles. But even the ~drama~ couldn’t take away from her excellent Dragazine win and DILF makeover.
Most iconic quote: “At least I am a showgirl, Bitch– go back to Party City where you belong!”
Who? The would-be epitome of perfection…until it came time to get “Greedy”
Appeared on: Season 9
Best Drag Race moment: While much of her incredible work has been overshadowed by her shocking exit (now that the episode has aired, she’s fielding all your confused inquiries), we loved every single look Valentina brought down the runway, from her darling wedding dress to her big hair look (pictured here).
Most iconic quote: “I’d rather keep it on.” (Sorry Tina– we had to!)
