Event We Love: Secret Solstice Festival
Nowadays music festivals are somewhat de rigueur when it comes to summertime entertainment, but what about a festival that combines music and the beauty of nature into a single weekend extravaganza? Enter Secret Solstice Music Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Known as the Midnight Sun Music Festival, Secret Solstice takes place from June 15-18, 2017, and this year features the Foo Fighters, Rick Ross, Big Sean, The Prodigy, Chaka Khan, Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals, Young Ma, Rhye, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Seth Troxler, and many, many more performers who will hit the stage over the course of the 3-day event.
Perhaps what makes Secret Solstice stand apart the most from other festivals is the true emphasis on experiencing nature and its beauty: a number of unique Reykjavik excursions can be added on to the festival experience, including trips to the iconic blue lagoon, the Golden Circle, whale-watching in Akureyri, a hot spring hike, a trip to the world-famous Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfalls, and “Whales in the Midnight Sun”– a unique whale-watching experience that takes place in everlasting daylight (all tours are organized through festival partners Must See In Iceland and Reykjavik Excursions).
For a complete list of performers (and more affiliated trips around Iceland!) visit the festival’s website, or follow Secret Solstice on social media at @secretsolstice.
This year, the festival is introducing a new lava tunnel side party in a 5,000+ year old tunnel, as well as an extra 4th day added with a special opening ceremony. Music + nature + fun at an annual festival that only happens in one of the most beautiful parts of the world? We thought you’d never ask!
