Events We Love: Escape to an Enchanted Forest (and Help Re-Plant it!)

From September 22-25, Greenpop (a very cool nonprofit aimed at starting a treevolution) will be hosting the Hogsback Festival of Trees in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

“Each September, we escape to the enchanted forests of the Amathole Mountains to plant trees, eat well, learn, grow and boogie the night away…,” the event coordinators write of the Festival, which is hosted by Terra-Khaya “Earth Home Project” with Greenpop hosting the tree planting day (sleeping arrangements are held at Terra-Khaya eco-backpackers, just outside the magical town of Hogsback).

Festival attendees can expect to enjoy hikes in Hogsback’s incredible forests, educational workshops, yoga sessions, tree planting, delicious meals, live music and visits to the oldest Yellowwood in the Eastern Cape.

“We will plant thousands of trees, rehabilitate wattle-invaded land, expand the habitat of the endangered Cape Parrot and Samango Monkey and enhance the abundance of life in our threatened forests and adjacent grasslands,” writes Greenpop of the event.
