GC Celebrates Planned Parenthood in L.A. with Demi Moore, Amber Heard, Dustin Hoffman, and More
Samantha Ressler and Nathalie Love co-founded We the Women, the Los Angeles–based women’s advocacy group, to create a safe and nurturing community for women in the arts and entertainment to share their voice and nurture their creativity. This past weekend, they did just that with a two-night performance of John Patrick Shanley’s 1986 play, Women of Manhattan, starring Jackie Shea, Armen Weitzman, Samantha Ressler, Bechir Sylvain, and Nathalie Love. On March 10th and 11th, the historical Palace Theatre in downtown L.A. was transformed into an inviting haven for art, advocacy, and awareness. “This play really spoke to us because it is about friendship and self-discovery,” Ressler and Love told Vogue. “We are all trying to grapple with the idea of our place in the world and the hope is this sparks a dialogue for everyone.”
Many notable faces and brands were in attendance, including Demi Moore, Amber Heard, Dustin Hoffman, Vogue.com, Gia Coppola and Juno Temple. Garden Collage was also on site offering women-positive floral tattoos encoded with symbolic meaning and feminine strength, as defined by the Language of Flowers. (We also designed a series of inspirational feminist baskets full of bold, bright florals designed by our staff.) It was a beautiful evening, and we were honored to be a part of it.
The theatrical production, gallery show, short film screening, and clothing shop all benefitted Planned Parenthood, who had representatives on site to discuss the particularly important role of Planned Parenthood in California (who play host to one-third of the entire population of people who use Planned Parenthood’s health care services). Love and Ressler urged those in attendance to take action and continue their support for Planned Parenthood and other pro-women organizations.
Guests danced into the night to a DJ set by Allie Teilz following the performance– the perfect way to top off two nights of standing ovations.
