GC Presents: Our Monthly Inspirations for September

Every month the Garden Collage team curates its creative and editorial direction around a series of three themes– visual and conceptual direction that coheres around botanical topics and trends of the moment. For September 2016, we are looking to inspiration points both old and new: “The Eccentric Gardener”, “Indian Summer”, and “The Political Garden”. Check out our mood boards and concept visions, below. We love hearing from our readers, so we welcome you to join us on this journey of creative exploration!

The Eccentric Gardener

The title says it all– this month we present a curation of eccentric, unique, and inspiring gardeners. In a series of personal narratives, we discuss their ideas, their style, and their mission to bring the garden into their own lives in a course of crafting their own botanical oases. To honor their efforts, elsewhere on GC we will be taking queues from this eccentric bunch to figure out (and write about) how other can add a bit of je ne sais quoi to their own gardens, window boxes, or other floral arrangements to change up the usual look. What fun and unique designs are out there? How can be aim for idiosyncrasy and achieve something truly bespoke? This month we explore the quirkiness of the eccentric’s garden, and all that it has to offer.

Indian Summer

The end of summer is here, and some places in the world are beginning to show nature’s beauty in the most stunning way: with the so-called Indian Summer, a period of absolutely beauty as summer mingles with Fall and light takes on a particularly gold note in the late afternoon. This is a beautiful, magical time and an opportunity to showcase garden destinations around the world with the most stunning, unforgettable visuals.

The Political Garden

The third theme for this month is “The Political Garden”– a look at the nexus where moments, movements, and political events cede with gardening, sustainability, and environmental awareness– from Guerilla Gardening (with Ron Finley, of course) to food politics to prison gardens and every meaningful interpretation in between.
