GC’s Favorite Floral Looks From Milan Fashion Week
Milan Fashion Week wrapped up last week, and florals and other botanical designs made a big impression on this year’s runway. Designers across the board looked to the garden for inspiration this season, with many people suggesting that this year’s Milan Fashion week was better than ever before. (Of course, we might be a little biased: here at GC we love Miuccia Prada, who remains one of the most influential magnates in the fashion world.) Still, there’s no denying that designers across this year’s #SS16 runway were completely inspired by flowers.
Of the four premiere global fashion weeks– New York, London, Paris, Milan– New York Fashion Week tends to be defined by the nouveau-chic, with big house brands like Marc Jacobs and DKNY typically striding to the fore. Meanwhile, London is all about heritage (cough, Burberry), with more than a few nods at the rock n’ roll punk aesthetic that has put “anarchy in the UK” on the map. Between icons like Fendi, Armoni, and Gucci, Milan has historically been defined by high-glamour and super-polished looks– but this year the mediterranean tendency towards naturalism was manifest. From street style to the runway, the garden was a primary focus at this year’s Milan Fashion Week, with heavy hitters like Gucci and Erika Cavallini presenting beautiful floral designs. We saw printed wool ensembles, duchesse satin bomber jackets, structured garden bags, and every blooming accessory in between.
Under the new creative leadership of Alessandro Michele, Gucci stood out as a Garden Collage favorite this season. From garden print linen double-breasted suits to structured bags with bamboo handles, we fell in love with Gucci’s own leaf intarsia design and the new ways they brought the garden into the world of fashion this season. Below, we present a few GC-approved looks from MFW SS’ 2016.
