Bouquet of the Week: The Power of a Statement Vase

As part of our recurring Bouquet of the Week series, Garden Collage continues to present a weekly inspirational bouquet that incorporates intriguing new elements into the traditional practice of flower arranging. This week, Garden Collage styles a simple bouquet in a statement vase.

This week for our bouquet series we wanted to play with the beautiful graduated purple and green colors of early season artichokes. To compliment the rugged stalks we paired the artichokes with soft, pink-hued ranunculus– two different, interesting flowers that somehow look super simple together, which makes them an ideal arrangement for an interesting vase.

For this week’s bouquet, we ultimately chose an antique vase that looks like a Greek goddess. This kind of vase has such character as-is that it needs a simple flower arrangement, since the design of the vase is a statement itself.

Vessels with strong character require simple floral arrangements in the same way that a luscious bouquet requires a muted vase, so as to avoid making it look too busy– the basic principles of complimentary design. Simple. Easy. Opposites attract!
