Dries Van Noten’s “Frozen Flowers” Showcase Japanese Art With Incredible Finesse
Belgian fashion designer Dries van Noten has famously been described as one of fashion’s “most cerebral designers”, and his recent SS’17 runway concept for Paris Fashion Week makes this designation even more apparent. This year’s runway featured frozen blocks of flower arrangements designed and conceptualized by Japanese artist Azuma Makoto. The “ice block bouquets” included over 90 varieties of flowers frozen in over 4101 gallons of water, serving as a quasi-futuristic counterpoint to his latest collection’s black, yellow, and gold fabrics.
