Our Latest Recommendation for Lil’ Sprouts Book Club: Countdown To Summer

Lil’ Sprouts Book Club is a monthly Garden Collage feature where we spotlight nature- and garden-related books for kids age 2 and up that encourage green education. The books are designed to evoke the core mission of Garden Collage: to bring the garden (and nature) into people’s lives.

Summer has finally arrived and we can’t help but be in a celebratory mood. In honor of the occasion, we selected Jane Ormes’ Little Honeybee as this month’s Lil Sprouts Book Club pick— a counting book with flaps that uncover nature’s finer details. Ormes’s story unravels in rhymes, moving from the first glimmers of spring to the full saturation of summer botanicals. With its colorful illustrations and tall, wide format, Little Honeybee gets the littlest of Lil’ Sprouts excited about exploring nature through the lens of the garden. Ormes’s book is the kind you can read over and over and still enjoy– just how every year we never get tired of those first baking hot days.
