The East Side of Manhattan Is Getting A New Park

Walking along the verdant waterfront of the West Side is one of those uniquely pleasurable New York experiences. From the forested heights at the top of the island to breezy views at Battery Park, the West Side boasts some of the most beautiful views, with the striking, sheer cliffs of the Palisades across the way to frame them.

In short, when it comes to the battle of best parks and green spaces between the East and West Side, there’s really no contest– or at least there hadn’t been, until now.

Mayor Bill De Blasio recently announced a plan to build an esplanade out over the water from 53rd to 61st Streets, closing the gap in green space between 41st and 62nd Streets. Construction is set to begin in 2019 and is projected to be completed in 2022. Check out more images of the Manhattan Greenway expansion project below.
