Interested in Hiking in L.A.? Runyon Canyon Is The Go-To Spot

Runyon Canyon is one of the most popular hiking destinations in all of Los Angeles, with three major loops through the Santa Monica Mountains in the middle of Hollywood. The primary loop is a pleasant 3.5 miles that rises 970 feet over the course of the climb, which boasts 360-degree views of the Hollywood Sign, Downtown LA, and houses nestled in the hills of Mulholland Drive (it’s also particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset). The area is home to an amazing collection of tiny dogs, chaparral, and wildflowers– a little oasis of wilderness in the middle of a bustling Hollywood neighborhood.

On a recent trip to L.A. our team took a late-afternoon hike around the longest loop– the perfect time of day to do so– and took in the dazzling view above. Anytime you are new to city, it’s always a good idea to get outside and get to a good view. It’s an easy, fast way to immediately ground yourself in the local environment while reflecting the beauty and natural splendor of the great outdoors– even in the middle of a city!
