Looking For An Easy After-School Snack? Make These Frozen Smoothie Packs

Involve Lil’ Sprouts in the kitchen with this easy, edible DIY. Perfect for busy mornings or after school, ready-to-go smoothie packs will inspire Lil’ Sprouts to explore what flavor combinations they enjoy–plus, it gives them confidence in the kitchen! Encourage kids to go out in the garden and experiment by adding fresh herbs or veggies (like spinach) if you have any growing in your yard. We adapted Green Blender’s pineapple sage smoothie–but feel free to come up with your own!

Materials & Ingredients:

  • Freezer safe bags
  • 1 1/2 oz chard
  • 1 pear – chopped
  • 1/2 lemon – juiced
  • 1 sprig sage – stemmed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ice

Directions:

  1. Wash all produce and let dry thoroughly.
  2. Dice pears, shred up chard, and remove the stem from the sage.
  3. Place the pears, chard, and sage in a Ziplock bag to freeze.
  4. When you are ready to make the smoothie, place the contents of the smoothie bag in a blend with ice, water, and lemon juice.
  5. Blend and enjoy!
