“From the Alhambra to the Taj Mahal” Arrives at Institut du Monde Arabe

“From the Alhambra to the Taj Mahal”, a new exhibit about middle eastern and southeast asian gardens around the world, is currently on display at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. It will remain on display until the end of September 2016.

Dedicated to the Arab-Muslim garden, the exhibit immerses and fully invests in the interior spaces of the IMA, expanding out of the museum and intro the vast esplanade with 2,000 square meters of outstanding ephemeral gardens– including those designed specifically for the exhibit by landscape gardener Michel Péna.

“From the Alhambra to the Taj Mahal” is a journey through history and a contemporary reinterpretation of Eastern gardens, which have long informed the Western approach to everything from landscapes to decor. The exhibit will offer an unusual and sensorial experience exploring antiquity through recent innovations.

All of the display’s artworks, scale models, and historical documents will illustrate the classical Arab-Muslim garden and its continuing evolution. The tour continues in the contemporary garden, where visitors discover a recomposed image of a masterful anamorphosis of vegetation– the star-shaped polygon– created by visual artist François Abélanet.

The art of gardening will be fully addressed in its cultural, scientific, aesthetic, graphic, technical, social, environmental, and educational dimensions.
