A Brooklyn Girl’s Quick Guide to Greenpoint

I live in Williamsburg, but my heart is in Greenpoint. There’s something about the fake flowers growing in every windowsill in the neighborhood and the fact that there are dozens of streets with no other people on them that just gets me– not to mention the coffee shops and vintage stores crammed together next to the big, blustery open water of the East River. Greenpoint is ever so slightly more off the grid than where I currently live, and is full of the adorable wood-floored apartments I always dreamed of living in.

Now that it’s starting to get nice out, I’m back to exploring, sitting in McCarren park, and wandering around in those hazy hours between four o’clock and seven. Here are a few places to go if you’re looking to spend a day in Greenpoint:

Frankel’s is the Jewish deli of your dreams, and close enough to the park that you can get your sandwich and latkes to go and sit on the grass. Make sure to swipe a few postcards and get a container of coleslaw. Down the street is Mirth Vintage, the kind of fantastically-curated vintage store that makes you want to revamp your entire wardrobe and buy your next three outfits. Circle back around to Ad Hoc, a tiny clothing store that somehow feels huge. (They also throw great store events and concerts, which are worth checking out online.) Finally, take a longer walk to Ovenly for cookies, cakes, or whatever feels right. In God We Trust is across the street, where you can look at clothes and jewelry before grabbing pizza at Paulie Gee’s.
