Coconut and Coffee? Try Our DIY Natural Body Scrub

After a long day spent gardening or in the office, this DIY natural scrub offers immediate relief for tired legs. It is also a great way to repurpose the coffee grounds from your morning coffee…

Caffeine, when applied topically to the skin, is renowned for its ability to help stimulate blood-flow– hence it may reduce the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, eczema and other unfavorable skin conditions. (This is the reason why most anti-cellulite creams contain caffeine– the smell of coffee is just a bonus.)

We’ve added cacao to this natural body scrub mixture as it is rich in anti-oxidants and promotes collagen production, which results in tighter skin. Coconut oil, meanwhile, will leave your skin soft and glowing– it has a good deal of moisturizing fatty acids plus Lauric acid, which is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Treat your skin to some TLC this weekend!

Method

Mix all the ingredients together and store in a glass jar. The mixture is preferably used in the morning instead of the evening so that the caffeine is absorbed over the skin– the amount of caffeine is less than what is in a cup of coffee, so it won’t keep you up all night.

To use, massage a small handful of the scrub mixture onto wet skin (but leave it off of scars and varicose veins). Then, shower it all off and dab the skin dry with a towel. The coconut oil is moisturizing enough that you shouldn’t need lotion after this exfoliation.

Please be aware that the oil will make the shower recess very slippery, so be careful. And your shower or bathtub will look like a mess before showering it away– but soft and glowing skin makes it worth the effort!
