Honey Rose Clay: A Moisturizing Mask for Winter
Roses and honey have both long been associated with beauty treatments, but the two also work amazingly together. During the cold winter months– when skin can be left feeling itchy, dry, and irritated– a healing honey-rose mask made with clay and colloidal oatmeal can work wonders by way of restoring a youthful glow.
Rose clay is a lesser-known derivation of the popular french green clay that has made its way into many over-the-counter face masks, while powdered rose petals are a softening antioxidant-filled agent that thickens nicely when added to any daily moisturizer or lotion-based skin treatment. Unlike harsh acids or enzymes, clay lifts impurities without destroying the skin’s delicate “acid mantle” (the ratio of oil to water on the skin’s surface, which keeps it healthy) while improving the skin’s ability to “inhale” valuable nutrients.
Colloidal oatmeal is an age-old anti-itch treatment that restores skin elasticity and durability, which is important for faces exposed to punishing wind and other extreme elements. When combined with honey– a known skin softener and antimicrobial— these ingredients make an ideal moisturizing face mask that helps protect and nourish the skin during cold winter months.

Preparation
Mix together the dry ingredients before adding the honey and rose oil. Optional: use a sifter to make sure the powdered ingredients are evenly distributed.
There are two ways to approach this mask at this stage: people who have sensitive skin should mix this paste with equal parts of their favorite face cream, milk (donkey milk works wonders), aloe vera gel, mashed avocado, or cucumber juice. Mix until it forms a wet paste, apply evenly to face and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
Those who want a “stronger”, more medicinal treatment can simply mix the above ingredients with equal parts water or witch hazel until it forms a spreadable paste. Apply to face and rinse off after 10 minutes.
