Daisy’s Tips: Plant Some Sunflowers This Week

End of spring / early summer is a great time to think about planting flowers for a children’s garden, and here at Garden Collage I’m always espousing the beauty and practicality of sunflowers, which is an easy addition to (literally) any garden scheme. Sunflowers have a certain magical science about them: they heliotropic (which means they turn to face the sun until they reach full-size, seed-bearing age), and scientists are also now using them to clean up nuclear radiation— which means this North American native is also as functional as it is pretty. They are perfect for kids gardens, as you can just throw seeds in a random pot and they grow quickly– they are fun, and results are visible– they really bring magic to the garden at the end of the summer; just remember to plant them now!
