Behind The Scenes at The Garden Collage Floral Salon
Last night the Garden Collage team partnered with publisher of the creative arts Phaidon Press to host a floral salon celebrating the rose. In keeping with Garden Collage’s mission to bring the garden into people’s lives, our founder Daisy Helman used the event to demonstrate how a garden can be created anywhere.
Visitors entered the venue through lush, romantic installations of vines and fresh roses, with flowers lining the windows and a vegetable garden on the rooftop. The baroque color palette evoked the original salons of France, while embracing the urban energy of New York’s Garment District. Guest speakers Shiva Rose, actress and founder of Shiva Rose Beauty, Stephen Scanniello, Head Rosarian at the New York Botanical Garden, and Kate Gilman, founder of Petal by Pedal shared their thoughts on and unique experiences with the rose. Guests were invited to create bespoke floral items and to enjoy rose-inspired canapés prepared by Michelin-chef Daniel Burns of Luksus and Tørst (based on his new book, Food & Beer) while enjoying a variety of wine, beer, Saratoga water, and Sakara rose water.
We used the event to spotlight our online shop with a curated pop-up store and video installation that showcased a selection of our favorite brands. (Many of which also appeared in our bespoke goodie bags, which featured the latest issue of Sunday Girl magazine.)
Among the attendees were Phaidon owner Debra Black and CEO Keith Fox; Ingrid Abramovitch, Editor at Hearst Design Group; Melissa Osawa, Editor at Martha Stewart Living; Mary Helen Bowers, creator of Ballet Beautiful; Kelly Framel of The Glamourai; Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg of Ann Street Studio, Katie Rodgers of Paper Fashion, and Barbara Corcoran, VP for Continuing and Public Education at the New York Botanical Garden. Thank you all for making this such a special event!
